The earliest inhabitants of South America/ Argentina, were Natives. They lived in Patagonia and later on became affected by the conquest of the Spaniards. This conquest of the Indians by the Spaniards led to an entirely new revolution in forming Argentina. A man by the name of Juan Diaz De Solis and Sebastian Cabot happened to be the first European travelers to reach Argentina in their explorations, and established many settlements during the 1500’s. When Solis and Cabot arrived in Argentina it started the initial conquest of the natives that lived there peacefully. They had an abundance of water and soil for farming, and common roads for travel and trade. The land was green and prosperous, giving the Europeans plenty to want when coming to this country. Argentina had wide open ocean for ships to be able to come in, bring goods, and trade if wanted or needed. Large seeded grass species was available to the Natives to use as needed.
Juan Diaz de Solis had landed on the shores of Rio de la Plata in 1516, but in 1527, it is thought that Sebastian Cabot, who was an Italian, found the first European settlement around the present day Rosario and it was him that gave the name River de la Plata, meaning the river of silver due to the local Indians who wore silver on the river bank. In 1536, Spaniards had experienced a brief settlement on the bay. The colonists, who had traveled from the Andes Mountains in Peru where the earliest permanent Spanish settlers in Argentina. These same Spaniards found Santiago del Estero, Tucuman, and other Northwestern mountain towns during the mid-1500’s. They then proceeded to establish Buenos Aires in 1580. The Europeans were very successful in arriving to Argentina and being able to establish settlements.
The earliest settlements came in search of gold and silver; Spain ruled Argentina for 300 years. The Settlements grew more rapidly than Buenos Aires and other coastal towns. The Spanish settlers had forced the majority of the Indians in the Northwest to work for them in ways of farming, and weaving wool into cloth. Due to the Europeans invasion of the Indians land with their differences of location many of the Indians ended up dying from diseases that they brought over, or simply died from Europeans killing them.
The Spaniards brought horses, sheep, and cattle from Spain that also held different diseases that the Natives were not accustomed to and that affected the population. The Europeans intermarried with the Spaniards, which created a mix in the white and Native population. The Natives in the south were able to keep control of the Patagonia and the Pampa.
The Spanish economy began to decline in the 1600s, and the Spanish government was then forced to sell big parts of the land in Argentina because of it. Europeans that were rich and the Criollos who were people of Spanish descent that had been born in Latin America, then proceeded to buy this land and create large structural investments.
The Viceroyalty of La Plata was finally established in 1776 which is a part of present day Argentina as well as other countries. Buenos Aires then became the capital of the Viceroyalty and proceeded to thrive as the center of all trade opportunities. In the 18th century, Argentina experienced its “golden age” which was an era of growth, prosperity based on the exportation of meat and grain, and on the importation of manufactured goods from abroad. Argentina then struggled to maintain control of Buenos Aires and the rest of Argentina due to this mass overload of population and success, but fortunately they established a Viceroyalty with Buenos Aires at the capital which caused Argentina to thrive as the center of all goods and services in the manor of trade

This map shows the different areas of life in South America. For every green area, there were non-urban Agricultural life matters here, meaning they were not up with current times with huts or trade roads, it was simple. The pink areas indicate the Urban life, where boats came in and traded goods, and life was moving forward in these areas. The blue areas represent the hunter-gatherer life which is where the people would hunt and collect their own meat and berries without the help of trade or anything that the Spaniards may have brought.
